Info On Fishing The Outer Banks Piers
Different fish run at different times of the year, but there is almost always a chance that something will be biting. Most of the OBX fishing piers have a pier house store that can offer advice on bait, tackle, and what to expect when you drop a line into the water.
A Coastal Recreational Fishing License is required for anyone over 16 years of age, and licenses are sold at the fishing pier tackle shops. Some of the fishing piers include the license fee in their usage fee for anyone fishing from the pier.
Not everyone on the pier is fishing. Fishing fees are usually around $10/day; to just walk out and enjoy the pier is under $5.00. Fees vary by fishing pier.
It is important to know the current fishing regulations. Most fish have a size limit, (usually a minimum size), but some species have a maximum size that can be kept.
A number of fishing piers have restaurants on them. you can check and see if they’ll cook your catch!
Not all fishing piers are open year-round, so it’s a good idea to call before heading out.
