Welcome! Your Wi-Fi password can be found in your check-in packet. For information about our services and the area, please visit our Outer Banks Travel Guide.

    Cleaning & Service

Please report any housekeeping concerns within 24 hours of arrival. Email service@carolinadesigns.com or call 800-368-3825 if you require housekeeping or maintenance services during your stay.

Our office is open 9 AM – 5 PM every day, and we have an after-hours emergency number (252-202-4964) for use in extreme emergency situations only. Note: Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside our homes. If excessive cleaning or smoke odor removal is needed after your stay, additional cleaning fees will be applied.

    Safety

Just as you would at home, please remember to lock your cars when unattended and secure your vacation home when going out and before retiring in the evenings. Remember that the SmartLock will not automatically lock behind you. Read more about Outer Banks vacation safety.

    Pools

Pools are serviced before the end of your check-in day, and chemicals are checked and balanced mid-week. A skimmer net is available for surface cleaning of debris. It is normal to see sand in the pool, especially on windy days. Sand does not alter the chemical balance of the water; however, if the entire pool is cloudy and you cannot see the main drain, please discontinue use and contact us.

    CAUTION:

For their safety, children should NEVER be left unattended around pools.
If anyone in your party has an implanted device sensitive to electricity, please contact our office for further information.

    Hot Tub/Spa

Hot tubs are fully serviced before the end of your check-in day. Chemicals are activated by water temperature, and the thermostat is set for normal use. It may take several hours for the unit to reach the desired temperature and for chemicals to properly dispense. Chemicals are checked and balanced again mid-week. Overuse of the hot tub can result in chemical imbalances that can be harmful to one’s health and increase the risk of skin irritation. Excessive use of blowers and high jet settings for over 30 minutes can cause motor damage.

For your safety, please observe the following rules:

    • Water temperature should not exceed 104 degrees.
    • Chemical floaters must be left in the water.
    • Enter and exit slowly.
    • Always shower before entering the tub and after using the tub.
    • Keep the cover on when the tub is not in use. Use care when removing or replacing the cover.
    • Restrict alcohol consumption while using the tub.
    • Do not use the tub alone. Do not overcrowd the tub.
    • Do not use electrical appliances in or near the tub.

    CAUTION:

For their safety, children under 12, elderly persons, pregnant women, and those with health issues should not use the tub. Children have an increased risk of skin irritation from hot tub use.
If anyone in your party has an implanted device sensitive to electricity, please contact our office for further information.

    Refrigerators

The refrigerator in your rental home may require a period of 24 hours after your arrival to reach and maintain a normal temperature. (This is due to temperature destabilization, which occurs from unloading, cleaning, and re-loading the unit with groceries on changeover day, especially on hot days.) To ensure proper operation, please keep doors closed as much as possible, set all temperature dials on medium, and do not block the vent that provides cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator. Setting the dials above medium could cause the unit to enter auto-defrost mode and shut down.

    Air Conditioning

Did you know a perfectly functioning air conditioning unit can only keep the top level of a home approximately 20 degrees cooler than the outside heat index? To best maintain temperatures in your home, please keep doors and windows closed and close blinds or curtains on the top level during the hottest part of the day. Please do not turn the air conditioning units down below 68 degrees, as this could cause the unit to freeze and stop working altogether.

    Check-Out Procedures

Check-out time is 10 AM; your keyless entry code will expire at that time. There is no need to return to our office. Please remember to:

    • Load and start the dishwasher(s).
    • Leave beds unmade (do not remove sheets) and leave towels on the bathroom floor.
    • Remove your trash from the home and take receptacles out to the street unless otherwise noted. Note: All trash must be placed in the provided receptacles. Loose items or trash bags are prohibited on the street and will not be picked up.
    • Leave the house and outside areas in a tidy condition, with all trash and personal belongings removed.
    • Close and lock all windows and doors. The SmartLock will not automatically lock behind you. To engage our SmartLock, place the palm of your hand against the black glass portion.
